Raw Cinnamon Desserts in Time for Christmas
It's never too early to start thinking about Christmas is it? These puds will also go down perfectly well among Halloween or Thanksgiving crowds, so don't feel like you have to wait 'til December to try them out for yourselves!
Cinnamon is an important token of the Yuletide season. The Huffington Post dubs it as one of the “Five Spices of Christmas” along with peppermint, nutmeg, rosemary, and ginger. Each one helps add flavour and nutrients to dishes and desserts enjoyed during this time of the year.
It doesn’t hurt that cinnamon also brings about several health benefits. Foxy Bingo identified the spice as helpful for brain function, and some studies have shown that it can even protect the brain from being affected by serious illnesses such as Parkinson’s disease. It may also help regulate high cholesterol and blood pressure.
Additionally, cinnamon is loaded with antioxidants, potentially making you less prone to the effects of ageing and lowering your risk of contracting a variety of ailments caused by free radicals. The spice has anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal properties, which all help to boost your immune system.
While cinnamon is considered a superfood due to its health benefits, most people still love the spice not for its effects, but for its smell and taste. A whiff of the spice is enough to make anybody crave the goodies they enjoy during Christmas. The good news is that there are recipes available now that teach vegans - as well as those just looking to eat a little more healthily - how to put together some amazing cinnamon-laced desserts this holiday season. Here are three healthy options that you can choose from if you want to add a little spice to your meals during the next few months!
Raw Cinnamon Rolls
Cinnamon rolls are probably at the top of the list of favourite treats for fans of the spice, with many recalling enjoying this either as a dessert or as a breakfast item. Divine Healthy Food provides a recipe for raw vegan cinnamon rolls, and besides the spice, the other main ingredient is the sweet red apple used to bind the other ingredients together.
For more flavour, the cinnamon rolls can be filled with date paste or something similar to add a fruity taste to the dessert. Similarly, you can add chopped nuts such as pecans or walnuts to give it texture.
Raw Cinnamon Spice Cheesecake Tart
If you’re craving the taste of a creamy cheesecake, why not make a cinnamon variant? The Vegan 8 shared their take on this tasty dessert. The best part about this recipe is that it only requires eight ingredients: sliced almonds, agave, fine sea salt, whole cashews, apple juice, lemon juice, ground ginger, and cinnamon. The mix creates a dessert that is mushy, creamy, and sweet at the same time.
Raw Cinnamon Pecan Caramel Pies
If you prefer pies over cakes, you can try out this recipe from One Green Planet. This dessert is gluten-free as well as vegan, bonus! It calls for slightly more ingredients than the previous one, as it includes desiccated coconut, raisins, melted coconut oil, vanilla, Medjool dates, tahini, and maple syrup. Nonetheless, it’s still relatively straightforward and doesn't take long to make, which is great given that you'll inevitably be busy socialising and enjoying time with loved ones during the holiday season.
And to make each one an ultra healthy treat, why not try one of our Raw Press juices to go with it? Any of these washed down with an Almond M!lk would suit me just fine, thank you very much.
